The collaboration between director Josef von Sternberg and his star Marlene Dietrich is unmatched in the history of film. The duo made seven films together between 1930 and 1935, establishing Dietrich’s iconic screen persona. Dietrich played glamorous and mysterious women, framed by von Sternberg’s chiaroscuro compositions and extravagant design.

Earlier this month, beloved Austin, Texas-based singer, songwriter and artist Daniel Johnston passed away. This probing, empathetic film examines Johnston's life, work, and struggles. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, the self-taught Johnston found connection through lo-fi home recordings of his stripped-down, emotionally direct music.
