90-year-old Merle is the last crusading member of the utopian movement Lawsonomy, founded by aircraft industry pioneer Alfred Lawson. After losing his company during the Great Depression, Lawson became a populist leader and messianic prophet, gathering thousands of followers to his quixotic cause. 60 years after Lawson's death, Merle—reunited with high school sweetheart Betty—continues to spread the gospel.

Flying saucers invade earth, and aliens start to reanimate human corpses. The living are pitted against the dead as slow-footed ghouls stalk curious residents who wander a Hollywood cemetery in search of the UFOs. While the military tries to cover up the story, a courageous crew unites to solve the mystery behind the aliens' fiendish Plan 9.
