John (Bowie) and Miriam (Catherine Deneuve) are bloodthirsty vampires, posing as wealthy music teachers in New York City. Although he is immortal, John discovers that he's rapidly aging, and becoming less desirable to his eternally youthful wife. He seeks the help of Sarah (Susan Sarandon) a scientist working on an experimental method to reverse ageing. But when Sarah and Miriam meet, the latter gets hungry for new blood.
